Our Digestive System plays a crucial role in our Overall Well-Being, and taking care of it is Essential for Optimal Health. 

Digestive Health refers to the Efficient and Effective Functioning of the Digestive System, which is responsible for Breaking Down Food, Absorbing Nutrients, and Eliminating Waste from our Bodies.

When our Digestive System is Functioning Properly, we will Experience Regular Bowel Movements, Minimal Bloating or Discomfort, and Overall Better Digestion.

Reasons Why to Maintain and Nurture our Digestive System

Nutrient Absorption:
The Digestive System is responsible for Breaking Down Food into Nutrients that the Body can Absorb and Utilize for Energy, Growth, and Repair.

Without Proper Digestion, Nutrients from Food cannot be effectively absorbed, which can lead to Deficiencies in Essential Vitamins and Minerals, resulting in symptoms like Fatigue, Weakened Bones, and Impaired Cognitive Function (Brain Skills).

Immune Function:
70% of our Immune system is located in our Digestive Tract.

A healthy Digestive System helps Maintain a Balance of Beneficial Bacteria in the Gut, which plays a Crucial Role in Supporting Immune Function and Protecting Against Infections and Diseases.  

What we Eat affects our Weight, our Energy and our Immune System.

Gut-Brain Connection:
There is a Direct Communication Pathway through the Vagus Nerve, from the Brain to the Gut and Vice Versa.

Detoxification:
Our Liver is a🔑KEY Organ in our Digestive System and plays a Central Role in Detoxifying Harmful Substances and Metabolizing Drugs and Toxins.

9 Organs Required for Digestion:

What Organ Does What:

#1 - Mouth:
Our Mouth is where Digestion Begins, and is responsible for Breaking Down Food into Smaller Pieces through Chewing and mixing it with Saliva.

Our Saliva contains Digestive Enzymes that starts Breaking Down Complex Carbohydrates (Starches) into Sugars and Fats that our Bodies can more easily Absorb.  Chewing our Food into Liquid facilitates swallowing ease and further aids in the Digestive Process.

Pharynx (Throat):
Our Pharynx (pronounced Fair-inks), is not an Organ.  It serves as a Passageway for Food and Fluid, from our Mouth to our Esophagus through a Process called Swallowing.

#2 - Esophagus:
Our Esophagus (pronounced a-saw-fa-guess), is a Hollow Muscular Tube that connects the Throat (Pharynx) to the Stomach, allowing Food and Fluid to travel from the Mouth to the Stomach.

The Muscle Contractions push and propel our Food and Fluid downward into our Stomach.

#3 - Stomach:
Our Stomach, the Toughest Organ in our Body, is J-Shaped and Digests our Food into Semi-Liquid or Paste form (called Chyme and pronounced Kime), through Enzymes and Acids, called Digestive Juices. Think of our Stomach as a Vitamix.

Once the Stomach Breaks Down our Food, it passes it into our Small Intestine.   

#4 - Small Intestine:
Our Small Intestine breaks down our Food even further, and Absorbs its Nutrients, which are needed for our Body's Energy, through the Intestinal Wall and into our Bloodstream. 

This partially Digested Food, Chyme, is mixed with Bile from our Liver and Enzymes from our Pancreas, in order to Break Down Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Fasts into Smaller Components. 

The Small Intestine also gets rid of unnecessary Components and pushes them into the Large Intestine. 

#5 - Liver:
Our Liver is the Largest Internal Organ. (Our Skin is our Largest External Organ.)

It performs many Functions, however we are talking about Digestion, so we will focus on that for this Blog.

Our Liver produces Bile, a Digestive Fluid that Emulsifies Fats and changes Nutrients into forms that Aid in their Digestion and are easily absorbed by the Small Intestine, referenced above.

#6 - Gallbladder:
Our Gallbladder is such an important Organ as it Stores and Concentrates Bile produced by the Liver.

When needed, our Gallbladder Releases Bile into the Small Intestine to Aid in the Digestion and Absorption of Fats.

#7 - Pancreas:
Our Pancreas Secretes Digestive Enzymes into the Small Intestine to further Break Down Proteins into Absorbable Nutrients. 

#8 - Large Intestine (Colon):
Our Large Intestine (often mistaken as our Stomach from an External View), is in Charge of the rest

Our Colon houses Beneficial Bacteria that Ferments Undigested Carbohydrates.  It absorbs Water and Electrolytes, from Undigested Food, Produces and Absorbs Vitamins and is in Charge of Facilitating the Elimination of Waste through Regular Bowel Movements.

#9 - Anus:
​Our Anus is the Last part of the Digestive Tract.  It is a Muscular Ring at the end of the Rectum, that opens during a Bowel Movement to allow Stool (Feces) to pass through and get out of our Bodies. 

Time it Takes to Digest Food

Meat and Fish can take up to 24-48 Hours (two days) to fully Digest, whereas Fruits and Vegetable, which are high in Fiber, can take half that time - Less than One Day.

The Bottom Line

Every Organ in our Digestive System is Important and by reading the Process, we're sure you can understand why.

Too many people today, have Gallbladders and Pancreas Organs removed instead of SWITCHing to a Healthier FUELstyle full of Fibre and High Nutrients from Fresh Organic Fruits and Vegetables.
