Holiday Health Hacks

The Festive Season is Fast Approaching! 

It's a Magical Time filled with Gatherings, Celebrations, Parties and Events!

It's also a time when our Diet tends to Go-Out-the-Window, and our Health Routines often Spiral Out-of-Control!

We make Excuses to Indulge in Decadent Desserts (I have to at least try it!); Eat one-more Deep-Fried Finger Food (they're so small, they don't count!); Gobble a few Extra Potato Chips (they're baked, less calories right!); Have an Extra Helping of Mashed Potatoes (they are soooo Yummy and it's the Holidays!); and, maybe even another Serving of Gravy for those Extra Potatoes (I'll put in extra Cardio tomorrow!!)

And with our Busy Schedules, Late Night Parties, Socializing, Shopping and Everything in Between, it's No Wonder we can FEEL Frazzled, Fatigued and even Depressed!

Dealing with the Holidays can put a Strain on us Mentally and Physically . . .

IF WE LET IT!

With a little Planning and Savvy Health Hacks, we can Enjoy the Holidays Feeling our Best! 

This Blog is about Helpful Hacks for our Mental and Physical Health during the Festive Holiday Season.

5 Health Hacks when Entertaining at Home:

It's Super important to let our Guests know what we are preparing, and let them know our Menu.

If we're Plant Based, (depending on our Guests), this just might be their first introduction to RAW Plant Based / Vegan FUEL.  This also gives our Guests an opportunity to bring a Plant Based Dish. 

🔶 Create Vibrant Platters: Prepare Healthy and Visually-Appealing Platters filled with an Assortment of Colorful Fruits and Vegetables, along with Nuts and RAW Dips. .

🔶 Inventive Appetizers: Offer RAWlicious Appetizers like Stuffed Mushrooms; Veggie Sushi Rolls with Cauliflower Rice served with a Non-Soya Sauce; Zucchini or Cucumber Cups filled with Savory Dip and/or a Plant Based Cheeze and Cracker Platter.

🔶 Signature RAW Mocktails: Prepare Refreshing Cold-Pressed Juice Mocktails using Fresh Herbs, Fruits, Veggies and Sparkling Water. Add Fruit to Ice Cubes and use as a Garnish and put into Fancy Glasses.

🔶 Indulge in RAW Desserts: Surprise our Guests with Decadent RAW Desserts such as Fruit-Based Sorbets; Cheesecakes; Energy Balls or Bars; Chocolate Bark and/or a Colourful Holiday Fruit Tree.

🔶 Interactive FUEL Stations: Set up FUEL Stations such as Build-Your-Own Salad Bars; Taco or Green Wrap Stations with Lettuce or Collard Leaves and/or a Make-Your-Own Smoothie Bowl Station with an Assortment of Toppings.

These RAWlicious, Colourful and Vibrant Dishes will help Encourage Engagement and Excitement, and allows our Guests to Create, Customize and have Fun Learning!

5 Health Hacks for Eating Out:

When we are Plant Based (RAW / Vegan), it's better to know what our options are Ahead-of-Time and to be Prepared, rather than, arrive Hungry with no Healthy Choices to Eat. 

These Strategies set us up for Success so we can Stay on our Healthy Track while Staying on our RAW Plant Based / Vegan and Healthy Course:

🎄 Eat Before Heading Out:  Having a Healthy Meal or, Drinking a Smoothie or GREEN Drink before going to a Gathering, can fill us up on our own FUEL.  Doing this will help Stop our Desire to Eat Unhealthy, Cooked or Fried Foods.

🎄  Contact Person in Charge:  When going to an Event, contact the 'Food Co-Coordinator' ahead of time, to let them know our Food preferences - RAW Plant Based / Vegan Food / Healthy Options, and simply ask if they can provide any of these Options for us.

🎄 Bring a Dish:  When heading to a House Party, offer to bring a Dish. If the Food Choices at the Party aren’t Healthy ones, then at least we can Eat what we brought!

🎄 Scope Out the Menu:  If we are booked to go out to a Restaurant, check out the Menu before hand.  Pick out the Healthy options ahead of time which will help us to stay on the Healthy Track!   

If it's a Buffet-Style, check out the Food Tables for Only Healthy, RAW, Vegan FUEL options, and load up on those and only those.

🎄 BYOW:  Bringing our own Spring Water wherever we go, will help us stay away from Sugary, Sweet and Empty-Calorie Dense Drinks and Cocktails.

5 Health Hacks for Maintaining Energy:

The Holidays can be Exhausting, so it's Important to Maintain our Energy so we don't Crash and Burn-Out!

🔶 Keep FUELed:  We must Keep ourselves FUELed with Nutritious RAW Plant Based FUEL.  The Fastest way to do this, is to Drink a Smoothie or GREEN Drink.   Make a few Drinks ahead of time so when rushing around, they are easy to Grab and GO.

🔶  Move Our Body:  Continuing to be Physically Active, keeps our Stamina up.  Working out in a Gym, Going to a Walk or Hike and/or Playing a Game of Pickleball, helps us to forge ahead with the Multitude of Tasks we need to do during the Holiday Season.   

🔶  Get Enough Sleep:  Making sure to get enough Rest and Sleep must be a Priority.  Maintaining a consistent Sleep Schedule (as much as possible), Rejuvenates the Body and MIND, and helps us sustain Energy Levels throughout our Busy Day.

🔶 Stay Hydrated:  Amidst the Festivities, making sure to Hydrate with Spring and/or Filtered Water is Crucial. Proper Hydration plays an important role in helping us Maintain our Energy Levels.  

🔶 Follow Through:  Be MINDful of the Commitments we make.  Say No when necessary to avoid Over-Extending ourselves. Setting Boundaries and Prioritizing our Time, helps Preserves our Energy for Activities that Matter Most.

5 Health Hacks for Dealing with "PEOPLE":

Often when people notice we are Eating Different to them, they ask a lot of Questions.

When we don't Engage in Negativity, Gossip or Cattiness, People will Notice and will often Comment in a Sarcastic, or Demeaning Manner.

In order to 'Deal' with "Other People" especially during this Time of Year filled with Chit Chat, Comments, Opinions and Shenanigans, the Main Thing is, to Keep to the Main Thing, Maintaining a Positive MINDset and Attitude!

🎁  We cannot Control Other People's Behaviors, just like we Can't Control the Weather or the Past.

🎁   Don't take anything Personally.  It's never really about us.  It's about them.  When people Over-React, it's usually a very Deep Trigger from something else and Guess What, we just happen to be there for the Fireworks.

🎁  Sometimes we are caught 'Off Guard'.  Before saying Anything, Take a Very Long Deep Breath, SMILE and say:  Are you OK?  This helps Defuse any situation if we are 'feeling' a little Uncomfortable.  By putting it back into their court, they have to think about what they said or did, and this gives us more time to readjust our MINDset.

🎁  Any Outward Negativity is a Reflection of What's-Going-On inside someone else.  Namely, Unhappiness and Hurt.  Understand this is not about us.  It is their Deep Hurt that has Unfortunately Not been Resolved and, is Rearing it's Head.  We always have a Choice to not Engage and/or Walk Away.

🎁  Do not React in like.  Nothing Positive happens with doing this, nor will the Results be Positive.  Use these Responses instead:  "Oh Really"  "That's Nice"  "Interesting"   And just SMILE🙂

​Know that WE have the POWER to SHIFT our Thoughts about the things WE CAN CONTROL - our own Thoughts, Reactions and Responses. 

Look at Everyone as a Warm, Loving Soul Deep Down with Walls of War Built up around them. 

See the small child within them that really doesn't have the Skills we do - being able to SHIFT our MINDset and to Create our Thoughts.

5 Health Hacks for KEEPing a POSITIVE ATTITUDE:

This is a Very Busy Time of Year when Everyone seems to be in a Rush, Hurry, Pre-Occupied and in their Own World. 

​We are on a Tight Schedule with Places to Go, People to See and Much To Do and in all of that, we Often Loose Our MINDS!

People tend to Bother us More, we become Judgmental of Others and we can get Stressed Out and Disappointed! 

​Let's just Take a Moment to THINK about what we are Saying, and How we are Reacting in order to Maintain a Positive MINDset  . . .

⭐ Take Time each day to Reflect on what we're Thankful for.  Gratitude cultivates a Positive MINDset when we SHIFT our Focus to the Blessings in our lives.

⭐ No One is Perfect.  It's our imperfections that make us Unique. In order to Go-with-the-Flow, be more Flexible with Plans and People's 'situations'.  This helps to Reduce OUR Stress and Disappointment.

⭐ Make Time for ourselves amidst the Hustle and Bustle . Engage in Activities that ReNEW us, whether it's Meditation, a Walk in Nature, Reading, a Digital Detox, or simply taking a Breather and Time Out.

⭐ Cherish Moments with Loved Ones, Friends and Family and Enjoy this Quality Time for what it is. Being Compassionate with others bring us the most Joy and Happiness.

⭐ Participating in Acts of Kindness and Generosity, whether through Volunteering or Small Gestures, which are really HUGE Gestures, just feels Good. Giving (without expecting anything in return), uplifts both the Giver and Receiver.

​By Looking at the Bright Side of Things, our Disposition is Brightened. 

When our Star Shines, it will be a Shining Guide for others. 

Actions of Kindness and Love will conquer all. 

By Spreading a little Sparkle and Shine to Everyone we Encounter, and we will FEEL Our Heart Expand with shear Joy and Abundant Positivity.

The Holidays are a time to Celebrate, Connect, and Create Memories—not to Stress because it's bad for our Mental and Physical Health.
