I need my Protein!  This is an Expression of the Necessity of Consuming Essential Nutrients for Maintaining Overall Health and Bodily Functions.  

In this Blog, we are going to Break it down and make it Easy to Understand, and Explain WHY PLANTS HAVE PROTEIN!

The Science of AMINO ACIDS and PROTEIN

What is Protein?
Proteins are Essential Nutrients that our Bodies Need to Function Correctly.

Proteins are made up of Smaller BUILDING BLOCKS called AMINO ACIDS, so in other words AMINO ACIDS BUILD PROTEINS.

Proteins are Responsible for Building Structures and Maintaining Life, and are made up of a Chain of Amino Acids.

What are Proteins Responsible for? 

💪🏼 Building, Growth and Repairing Tissues 

💪🏼 Producing Enzymes and Hormones

💪🏼 Support Immune Function

💪🏼  Muscle Mass Maintenance and Growth

What are Amino Acids?
Amino Acids are Organic Compounds that Combine to Form Proteins.

Think of Amino Acids as the Alphabet, and Proteins as the Words that are Formed from this Alphabet.

Amino Acid Breakdown:
There are 20 Different Amino Acids. 

Our Bodies Produce 11 of them, and 9 of them must be obtained from the FUEL we Consume.

11 Non-Essential Amino Acids:
These are the 11 Amino Acids that our Bodies Produce on their own:

Alanine
Arginine
Asparagine
Aspartic acid (Aspartate)
Cysteine
Glutamic acid (Glutamate)
Glutamine
Glycine
Proline
Serine
Tyrosin

9 Essential Amino Acids: 
These 9 Amino Acids Cannot be Made by our Bodies and must be obtained from the FUEL we Consume:

Histidine (Only Essential for Infants, Children and for People with Impaired Kidney Function)
Isoleucine
Leucine
Lysine
Methionine
Phenylalanine
Threonine
Tryptophan
Valine

Evolution of the Term "Protein"

The term "Protein" originated from the Greek word "Proteios," meaning "of Primary Importance."

The Word "Protein" was first coined in the 19th century by Dutch Chemist Gerardus Johannes Mulder, who studied the Composition of Plant and Animal Tissues and identified a Nitrogenous Compound that he named "Protein".

Scientific Discovery:
As Scientific Knowledge advanced, it became Clear that Proteins are Composed of Smaller Units called Amino Acids, linked together in Peptide Chains.

What we call "Proteins" are really AMINO ACIDS, and these Amino Acids Build Proteins in our Bodies.

"Protein" over "Amino Acids" 

Public Perception and Appeal:
As Nutrition Science Evolved and Developed, there was a lot of Focus put on Protein as a Crucial Component of the Body's Nutritional Needs.

The term "Protein" Resonated with Consumers and became Synonymous with Strength, Health, and Essential Nutrition, rather than "Amino Acids" which is a more Scientific Term not easily Remembered or Understood.

Marketing and Advertising:
This Public Perception was Reinforced through Smart and Savvy Marketing and Advertising Companies through their Campaigns, Promoting Protein-Rich Foods as Necessary for Growth, Muscle Development, and Overall Well-Being.

Marketing Companies used the word "Protein" as it was Easier to Advertise (and to Remember and Buy), than using the Correct Term "Amino Acids".

And this is How AMINO ACIDS were Replaced with the Term PROTEIN.

Today However, many Health-Based Companies are using the Proper Term of AMINO ACIDS and indicating that they are the BUILDING BLOCKS of PROTEIN as a Tag Line.

Food and Wellness Industry:
The food Industry Capitalized on the Importance of Protein in our Diets.

Products were Marketed based on their Protein Content, appealing to Consumers Seeking Health Benefits and Nutritional Value

Protein Supplements and Supplementation gained Popularity among Athletes, Fitness Enthusiasts, and Anyone looking to increase Muscle Mass and/or Enhance Recovery.

Marketing these Products as Protein-Rich,  Capitalized on the Public's Association of Protein with Health and Fitness Goals.

💥Today However, many Health-Based Companies
are using the Proper Term of 'AMINO ACIDS'
and indicating that they are the
BUILDING BLOCKS of PROTEIN.

ALL Plants have "Protein"

All 20 Amino Acids, the Building Blocks of Proteins, are found in ALL PLANTS, providing All 11 Non-Essential and the 9 Essential Amino Acids, which is called a 'Complete Profile'.

Meat, Fish, Fowl and Diary, lack in Certain Amino Acids and do not have the 20 Complete (Non-Essential and Essential) Amino Acids, and therefore we must rely on other sources of the lacking Amino Acids for our Bodies to THRIVE Daily.

Some of the Largest and Strongest Animals Eat PLANTS (Amino Acids)

Many of Our Planet's LARGEST and STRONGEST ANIMALS are HERBivores, relying Entirely on PLANTS for their PROTEIN. 

Remember Amino Acids make Protein and ALL PLANTS HAVE ALL 20 AMINO ACIDS!   

Here are a few impressive examples:

Gorillas: A Gorilla's Diet is Primarily Leaves, Stems, and Fruits. They are Incredibly Strong and can Weigh up to 500 pounds.

Rhinoceroses: Rhinos Graze on Grasses, Leaves, and Shoots. They can tip the scales at around 5,000 pounds.

Horses:  These Beauties Consume Mainly Grass and other Vegetation.  They can Weigh between 900 to 2,200 pounds.

Cattle: Cows and Bulls Graze on Grass, Hay and other types of Plant matter. Their Weight can range from 1,000 to 2,500 pounds.

Elephants: These Gentle Giants consume up to 300 pounds of Plant Matter Daily and can Weigh between 5,000 and 14,000 pounds!

The African Elephant is the Strongest Animal on our Planet!
