What are Sea Vegetables? 

Sea Vegetables are often interchangeable with the word Seaweeds and Sea Algae.

Edible Sea Vegetables contain high amounts of Fiber and contain a Complete Protein. There are several different kinds of Algae – Green, Red and Brown, and most are Marine.  

Sea Vegetables are SuperFoods

Sea Vegetables are also Classified as SuperFoods and here are some Reasons why:

1. Rich in Nutrients: Sea Vegetables are dense in essential Vitamins and Minerals. They contain significant amounts of Iron, Iodine, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, making them a Nutrient Powerhouse.

2. High in Antioxidants: They are packed with Antioxidants such as Flavonoids, Carotenoids, and Phenolic compounds. These Antioxidants help combat Oxidative Stress, Reduce Inflammation, and Protect Cells from damage caused by Free Radicals.

3. Source of Essential Nutrients:  They contain Omega-3 Fatty Acids, essential for Heart and Brain Health. They also contain all Essential Amino Acids that the body cannot produce on its own.  They also have a lot of Dietary Fiber.

Types of Sea Vegetables

Here are several types of Sea Vegetables and you may even know a few:

1. Nori:   Usually known to wrap Sushi rolls, because it has a mild, slightly sweet taste and a crispy texture when dried. 

2. Wakame: Often used in soups like Miso soup.  Wakame has a subtly sweet flavor and a slightly slippery texture. 

3. Kombu: Widely used in Japanese cuisine, added to broths and stocks for its savory-rich flavor. 

4. Dulse: This red Seaweed has a chewy texture and a salty, smoky flavor. Dulse is often enjoyed as a snack or added to dishes for its unique taste.

5. Hijiki: Hijiki has a strong, earthy flavor and a slightly crunchy texture. 

6. Arame: With a mild, sweet flavor and a tender texture, Arame is often rehydrated and used in salads.

7. Sea Lettuce: This bright green, paper-thin Seaweed has a mild, delicate flavor. It's commonly used in salads or as a garnish due to its appealing appearance.

8. Irish Moss: Known for its gelatinous texture when soaked, Irish Moss is often used as a thickening agent in RAWcipes, Smoothies and Desserts.

9.  Chlorella and Spirulina:  They are considered a type of Algae, and are cultivated and harvested in Freshwater for their Nutritional value. Usually added to GREEN Drinks, Smoothie Bowls and Smoothies.

Each type of Sea Vegetable offers unique tastes and Nutritional benefits, making them versatile additions to various dishes or as standalone ingredients in meals.

How to Make SEA-sonings

RAW, Organic Sea Vegetables are Sold at Healthy Grocery Stores.  They can be found in Bags or as Shakers.  When you open one of these Sea Vegetable bags, the Sea smell from these Vegetables is strong, and smells like the Sea. 

DIY:  If they are not perfectly dried, dry them in a Dehydrator until Crisp and Crunchy.  Crumple them up into chunks, and/or add them into a High Speed Blender (Vitamix) until Granular Flakes to make your own Shakers. 

Because Sea Vegetables are on the Salty side, it's a RAWmazing alternative to conventional Salt, and could and should be graciously used to Sprinkle on Salads, and Blend into Dishes.
