GLUTEN vs. GLUTEN-FREE

We often encounter the term "Gluten-Free" on Food Labels, but what does it truly signify?

Understanding the distinction between Gluten-Containing and Gluten-Free Foods is essential for making informed Dietary Choices that impact our Health and Wellness.

The 🔑KEY Difference

The Primary Difference between Gluten and Gluten-Free Products lies in the Presence, or Absence of Gluten, a Protein found in certain Grains.

This Distinction Significantly Affects our Digestion, Energy Levels, and Overall Health.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a Protein Naturally Present in Grains such as Wheat, Barley, and Rye.

It is mostly found in White Bread, Pastries, Pasta and Baked Goods.  Specifically in 'Breads', Gluten acts as a Binding Agent, giving the Dough its Elasticity and helping it Rise during Baking.

While Gluten is harmless for many, it can cause adverse reactions in individuals that are Gluten-Sensitive, or have Celiac Disease (the Immune System mistakenly attacks the Lining of the Small Intestine, causing Inflammation and Damage).

What Does Gluten-Free Mean?

Gluten-Free designates that a Product does not Contain Gluten.

This is crucial for those with Gluten-Related Disorders, as consuming Gluten can lead to serious Health issues.

Alternatives are: Quinoa, Rice, Corn and more (see below).

Note:   Gluten-Free Products are not necessarily Healthier.

The Impact of Gluten on Our Health

Individuals with Celiac Gluten Sensitivity may experience Symptoms like:

😟 Bloating, Diarrhea or Constipation
😟 Brain Fog or Fatigue
😟 Skin Rashes
😟 Joint pain
😟 Nutrient deficiencies
😟 Mood Swings or Anxiety

People who have eliminated Gluten from their Diet appear to Experience Fewer Digestive Problems, however, may not be getting enough Nutrients due to lack of Grains.
